Indian Motorcycles Is Getting their Wheels Rolling
The government came up with a good idea, Cash for Junkers. Then Genuine Scooter Co climbed on the band wagon. The restrictions to their program was small, any 2 wheeler with a title that can be rolled or driven in to it’s dealership qualifies. Now, Indian Motorcycle is on deck and poviding a cash incentive program.
Indian is offering $3,000 toward a new 2009 Indian Chief to customers bringing in bikes on trade. Indian has a few more considerations than the government program and Genuine Scooter. The trade-in requires a street legal, 100cc or larger motorbike that is in running and rideable condition. Exclusions include scooters, mopeds and dirtbikes.

Scorpion Sports announced that it has terminated Eric Anderson, vice president and creator of the Scorpion brand of helmets and apparel. The decision was effective September 1.
This past summer Scorpion signed an agreement for Tucker Rocky distribute its product line, despite assertions made by Anderson when the company was founded that the brand would always be sold dealer-direct.

J.D. Power and Associates December 2008 Report: Customer Satisfaction Reaches Record Levels
Overall satisfaction with the motorcycle ownership experience has increased for a sixth consecutive year to a record-high level, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Motorcycle Competitive Information StudySM released today.
Now in its 11th year, the study measures owner satisfaction with new motorcycles by examining five major components of the overall ownership experience: product; quality; cost of ownership; sales; and service.

As boomers have aged, the motorcycle that once represented all-American cool has been losing prestige, sales and market share. Like many Americans in their 40s, Michael Bogart is thinking about aging.
In the 1980s, when Bogart first started working at the Harley-Davidson (HOG, news) motorcycle dealership in Long Island City, N.Y., his average customer was between 25 and 35. Today, he says, it’s more like 45 to 55.

Malcolm Smith Motorsports, the Riverside, Calif. multi-line dealership, sold two KTM 65SX Motocross bikes and a Can-Am quad in defiance of the CPSIA in the Kids Love 2 Ride protest, March 19.
Owner Malcolm Smith, a member of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, off-road racing champion and star of the film “On Any Sunday” organized the protest, inviting industry celebrities such as Supercross icon Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward, Troy Lee and Hall of Fame off-road racer Scot Harden.

Would You Like A Motorcycle With That iPod?
You think of Best Buy for TVs, washing machines, computer peripherals and cell phones, so why not a $12,000 electric motorcycle. Best Buy have plans to sell the $11,995 Enertia electric motorcycle made by Ashland, Ore.-based startup Brammo at five of its West Coast stores in May.
Speculation that Best Buy would sell Brammo’s motorcycles began back in September when Best Buy Venture Capital participated in a $10 million investment in the Ashland, Ore.-based startup. Chrysalix Energy Ventures was another investor. (more…)
